On 13 November 2009 (it was a Friday) I resigned from my post as a Senior Lawyer in the Government Legal Service (HMRC).

I gave up a good salary and one of the so called “gold plated” Civil Service Pensions (as it happens its nothing of the sort).

I did this to go back and finish what I started in July 1992 when I was called to the Bar – to establish myself as an independent practitioner at the Bar.

Its been hard work and I’ve had a lot of support from the Members of Exchange Chambers. It’s been tremendous fun. I don’t regret my decision to leave employment in the Civil Service for one moment.

Today I learnt (and have now read) that I am recommended in Chambers & Partners Legal 500 for my work in the Tax Tribunal. Its a small but perfectly formed entry – and from small acorns mighty oak trees grow (don’t you just love Denning?). You can read it here

I feel humble and I am immensely grateful to those who have recommended me.
